🤝For Lay Leaders

Volunteer coordination without the friction.

Per-role planning portals, public signups, ownership at every level.

Lay leaders do the work that holds the synagogue together — and most of them have never had software designed for them. Section leaders running Pesukei D'Zimra, ambassador-greeters at the door, kiddush sponsors, choir directors, building committee chairs, religious-school teachers. MyBimah's planning portals give each role a workspace tailored to their job, without the weight of admin tooling. Sign in, see what's coming up, fill what needs filling, manage your team.

Planning portals per role

Every service role with planning-portal flag flipped on gets a dedicated URL. Section Leader for Shacharit, Ambassador-Greeter, Sermon, Kiddush Sponsor — each is its own portal showing only the dates and assignments relevant to that role. Filter pills, dual-view (upcoming list + 3-month calendar), inline edit forms, blackout-date awareness.

  • URL pattern: /planning/[role-slug] — bookmarkable, sharable
  • Compact summary row when collapsed, full edit form when expanded
  • Filter pills: All / Needs Attention / Confirmed / Planned with count badges
  • 3-month mini calendar: color-coded Saturday dots, click to navigate
  • Auto-expands "Needs Coverage" entries on load

Manage Team — soft authority, real tooling

Each portal has a Manage Team panel for the lead. Add or remove team members from this role. View team availability — who's blacked out which dates, who's confirmed, who's pending. Promote a Provisional member (auto-tagged when added to a service mid-flow) to permanent membership.

  • Per-role tagging: user_service_role_tags M:N
  • Provisional flag for auto-tagged members — explicit "Promote" button to confirm
  • Cross-role conflict detection: "Sarah is also assigned to Hallel Leader on this date"
  • Three-layer availability: explicit blackouts + cross-role conflicts + assign-anyway override

Self-service blackout management

Volunteers manage their own blackouts. Open the dashboard, click Blackouts, add date ranges with optional role scope ("I'm out for ALL roles" vs "only Hallel Leader"). Lay leaders trying to assign during a blackout window see the conflict in the picker. Less coordination, fewer awkward Friday-afternoon texts.

  • BlackoutManagerModal — shared component on dashboard + every portal
  • Add / edit / delete with styled confirm dialog
  • Optional role_id scope: null = all roles, specific = single role only
  • Refreshes the launching surface so the team-availability view reflects new blackouts immediately

Your Schedule on the dashboard

Sign in. See your upcoming roles + active blackouts in a card at the top of the dashboard. Click a role → jump to that role's portal. Click a service-linked role → jump to the service order. The dashboard tells YOU what's relevant, not what's relevant to admins.

  • Top-left widget, always visible to authenticated users
  • Pulls from /api/me/schedule — joins planning_entries.assigned_user_ids @> [you] + active user_availability_blackouts
  • Status pills: Confirmed, Pending, Needs Coverage
  • Click-through to service when a planning entry is linked

Calendar + Saturday dots

The calendar view shows every Saturday with color-coded dots indicating service order readiness. Click a Saturday → open or create a service. Hebrew date overlay. Parsha + holiday chips. Hover for the popover with Sefaria description. Useful for any lay leader thinking 6+ weeks ahead.

  • 3-month grid OR single-month view
  • Hebrew date subtitle per cell (Hebcal-driven)
  • Parsha + holiday chips per day with Sefaria popover
  • Saturday-dot color: green (ready) / amber (working) / gray (empty)

Pulse — the place your suggestion lands

Lay leaders are often the ones with the best ideas — and the ones whose ideas get lost. Pulse gives every congregant a place to submit, with a public Project Board showing what's actually shipping. Submit at /help, track at /help/me, see the community board at /community.

  • Anonymous-friendly submissions (auth optional)
  • Status link emailed back — track without logging in
  • Public Project Board: "Sanctuary Lighting Refresh — active, last updated 12 days ago"
  • Reply via email or the public status page; threads land in the staff inbox

Volunteers do the work that makes a synagogue. They deserve software that does the same.

We're onboarding new launch-partner synagogues selectively while we mature the platform with our beta partner. Send a note and we'll set up a conversation.
